The Boston Celtics have just that this season, "high hopes". The have one of the best coaches in basketball in Brad Stevens. They have one of the most explosive guards in the league in Isaiah Thomas. They landed a huge free agent acquisition in Al Horford. I know the Celtics believe they are the one true threat for the Cavs in the East and if they can manage to pull off one more move during the season, they can shock many!
What do the Brooklyn Nets and Love and Hip-Hop artists have in common? They both are not really that good. I believe Jeremy Lin will be decent this season but just like the artists on the show, his team needs a lot of work.
New York Knicks
The Knicks are LOADED. Now many do not think this team will make the playoffs but if (BIG IF) they gel like I believe they will, they could possibly be the biggest threat to the Cavs. Their whole team is full of people with something to prove and now they are BACK ON ROAD!
The injury bug has been lingering over the 76ers for years now and it really makes no sense as to why. Joel Embiid has been hurt for two seasons and is FINALLY back from injury. Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor have both had their share of missed games due to injury. Now, top pick Ben Simmons is out with an injury just when it looked like things were turning around for the franchise. The Sixers will still be intriguing this season as long as Embiid stays healthy but at this point that does not even seem realistic?
The Cavs are just "too good" for them to have a chance.
I really cannot guess what type of season the Chicago Bulls will have. Either they will be good or really bad. I do not know how these three Alpha dogs will work together. One thing I do know is that the Bulls will NOT be a good shooting team. Wade, Rondo, and Butler are all more slashers than shooters and on the entire team, the only two deep threats are Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic. You can expect to see a lot of Bricks this season while watching the Bulls.
The biggest threat to the Cavs in my eyes are the Indiana Pacers. They have a superstar in Paul George. They got him new weapons in starters Jeff Teague and Thaddeus Young and a vet to come off the bench in Al Jefferson. If this team comes together quickly under new head coach Nate McMillan, they can challenge Cleveland for the top spot in the East.
They do not have big rings or any rings but they have a REALLY BIG TEAM (size wise).
Inspired by LeBron (I assume), Dwight Howard has decided to take his talents back to his hometown. He will return to being the centerpiece after being the second option with the Lakers and Rockets. I hope to see Howard return to the player many of us became a fan of.
The Hornets will get back up but they will fall down the rankings this season. Others teams got better while the Hornets got worse. They lost Jeremy Lin (Nets), Courtney Lee (Knicks) and Al Jefferson (Pacers) and did not add any pieces. This season could be a setback for Charlotte.
SMH! Shame on Pat Riley and the Miami Heat for messing over Dwayne Wade. This season will probably be a LONG one for the team. I do not see any playoffs in-sight but I do predict a high lottery pick.
What we will see early in the season is that the GM for the Magic will need to pick up the phone and make some calls to unclogged that logjam in the front court. Aaron Gordon is playing the three but is naturally a four. The team traded for Serge Ibaka and signed Bismack Biyombo and Jeff Green. Not to mention they have Nikola Vucevic at the center. There are not enough minutes around for these bigs. Somebody gotta go!
Chemistry is something lacking between the Wizards two best players in John Wall and Bradley Beal. I believe it will show again this season resulting in the Wizards missing the playoffs for ANOTHER year. If the season gets off to a rocky start then I would not be surprised is Wall ends up on the trading block.
