I am not pointing fingers because I can get caught up too. I had it really bad; I found myself caught up in just about anything with a screen. I would crush candy until I ran out of lives. Then I would Facebook until I was bored, lurk on Instagram, pin a few things to my private wedding planning board and then crush a little more candy. After that, I would lay in bed, watch HGTV and then catch up on favorite shows that had been recorded. As I grew weary I realized, I had accomplished absolutely nothing yet my energy was totally drained. I was powerless. All of the hours that I wasted staring at those screens doing non-productive things could have been spent investing in important things such as family, personal growth but I was too busy connecting to the wrong things.
I had to take a minute to reevaluate what is important.
How then do you think it feels when we stay disconnected from God, how do you think He feels when He sees us spending time on things that don't matter instead of spending valuable time with Him? How do you think He feels when you finally reach out to Him after neglecting Him day in and day out?
Just like our devices need to connect to an outlet in order to keep from losing power, so do we. God is our source and we need to plug into Him so that we do not lose our power. As we disconnect from worldly distractions, we get a chance to reconnect with our power source. When we plug in, we get to recharge our batteries essentially saving us from death. The same way you cannot function when your phone is dead and you just have to find an outlet, that is the kind of passion with which you should seek to plug into the power of the one true and living source that is God.
Plug in with praise, fasting, consecration.
Plug in with faith, hope, love.
Turn off the television, put down the phone, disconnect a little everyday and see if you don't feel charged up after reconnecting with God!
