So I repeat, Kevin Durant has been a superstar. But while Durant has been great, he has been frustrating to watch over the years. Too many times have we seen Durant play second fiddle to point guard Russell Westbrook. Now I won't necessarily say this is a bad thing because Westbrook is a superstar in the NBA as well; he's the most explosive point guard in the league. However it is bad when the best and one of the most efficient scorers in the league is not even leading his team in shots. The world wanted to see a more aggressive Durant; a Durant that demanded the ball, a Durant that took games over, a Durant that shall I say, was more like Russell Westbrook.
With Westbrook being out with injury, that Durant has arrived. Durant has been on a scoring tear for the last 12 games scoring 30 points or more in each of them. He also has been very efficient shooting over 50% in over majority of those games and dominating at the free-throw line. Durant has been making his case for MVP been leading his team to wins over several of the NBA's best teams and is currently on one of the best scoring sprees in NBA History. This is the Kevin Durant the world has been waiting to see. We all knew he had the ability, we just wanted him to really exert it more aggressively like a Kobe Bryant does. This Kevin Durant is virtually unstoppable; opposing defenses have no answer for him. The only person I could see stopping Durant is the one and only: Russell Westbrook.
I predict the new Kevin Durant is here to stay. However, I do feel that it will cause conflict when Russell Westbrook returns. It's in Westbrook's nature to be aggressive and as good as his teammate Durant is playing, I don't see him adjusting his game anytime soon. The Thunder have what it takes to win a championship this year with the way Durant is playing. Adding Westbrook back to the lineup makes them better and gives them an even better shot to win the title, but his return can also be the reason they lose it. Durant has to stay aggressive when Westbrook returns and Westbrook has to comply by doing what he does best but making sure not to take too much away from Durant. If he can't do that, expect trouble.
